How Transitioning to RoHS-Compliant Connectors Drives Improvement

In the transition to RoHS-compliant connectors, the most immediate benefit that surfaces is meeting safety and environmental regulations—and the opportunities that affords. What’s less apparent is how a RoHS compliance move benefits connector performance and cosmetics, too.

RoHS-Compliant Connectors Deliver Better Protection

Amerline’s RoHS-compliant connectors feature electro-deposited olive drab, common to military applications, or black finishes, typical for industrial uses. Both feature a 500-hour salt spray rating, as opposed to cadmium olive drab plating, which has only a 48-hour rating.

Connectors with a higher salt spray rating are, of course, better able to resist the corrosive effects of salt-laden air and moisture. This is especially critical in marine, industrial or military applications, where connectors are routinely exposed to harsh environmental conditions. The finish applied to Amerline connectors also avoids scratches that can lead to corrosion and rust.

While increased corrosion resistance supports reliable connectivity, it also means connectors maintain integrity over their operational lifespan. That’s fewer replacements and less downtime.

Aesthetic Improvements that Come With This Move

Amerline customers are often pleasantly surprised by the cosmetic improvements RoHS-compliant connectors provide.

As alluded to above, our protective electro-deposited olive drab and black finishes are also scratch resistant. This helps maintain the connectors’ visual quality, enhancing the product’s perceived quality and, by extension, increasing customer confidence in the product’s value.

A New Standard in Connector Design

When you make the move from cadmium to RoHS-compliant connectors, you’re not sacrificing anything for the benefits: no hazardous substances, better salt spray resistance, improved scratch resistance.

The transition itself is easy. Amerline’s RoHS-compliant connectors are a drop-in equivalent to Mil-SPEC connectors. You can go from using an MS version of a connector with cadmium plating in your electrical and electronic products to replacing it with our RoHS alternative without missing a beat.
